Sunday, 03 June 2001 | There goes the neighborhood

Stef and Matt are officially back in town, after spending more than a year in the desert. Friday night Stef showed us what the dry heat drove her to do: make twisted suburban flags. (Here is an example of a traditional suburban flag.) Her and Michael's project There Goes the Neighborhood: Suburban Flag Appropriation debuted Friday at Lump Gallery in downtown Raleigh. So of course I went opening night and I was pleased to find flags that looked convincingly suburban apart from the content: a butterfly with a skull head, a gas mask, a danger! electrocution illustration, a dog relieving itself, etc. If I can find some pictures, I'll be sure to post them.

The Soup Nazi: I was nervous that I'd mess things up for myself, that I'd somehow otherwise offend the Soup Nazi.

People We Like. I've got a new photo in The Morning News: the co-owners of Frank White, an unusual coffee shop in my neighborhood.

Charles Atlas will make a man of you! "Against Atlas' better judgment, I declined performing all of my exercises in the nude." (accompanying shirtless photo of the author taken by me.)

Cat on a Leash. I am totally buying a leash for Coleman asap.

The Brooklynites. Great photos of a wide range of people from my favorite borough. (Thanks to Kurt [a talented photographer himself] for passing this on.)

Killer Boob. My childhood (and current!) friend Sarah talks about her experience with breast cancer on her well written and charming blog. She's an American living in Belgium and happens to be one of the best people I know.
