Monday, 22 July 2002 | Moving!

In less than three weeks, I won't be drinking any more sweet tea, saying hello to strangers, driving on the interstate to get to my job, watching palmetto bugs scurry down the sidewalk, or living in the giant forest that is North Carolina.

I'm moving to New York, to work at the Natural Resources Defense Council, to do web production, writing, editing, and research. Instead of commuting from Raleigh to Durham in my old Honda, I'll be commuting from Brooklyn to Manhattan in an underground train, standing in packed crowds of people whom I will not automatically acknowledge or make eye contact with. Instead of selecting a CD and extending my arm out the window, pushing my palm against the wind, I will listen to the echo of an amateur guitar player's notes bouncing off the tiles and drifting through the tunnels. It doesn't feel real quite yet.

Charles Atlas will make a man of you! "Against Atlas' better judgment, I declined performing all of my exercises in the nude." (accompanying shirtless photo of the author taken by me.)

Cat on a Leash. I am totally buying a leash for Coleman asap.

The Brooklynites. Great photos of a wide range of people from my favorite borough. (Thanks to Kurt [a talented photographer himself] for passing this on.)

Killer Boob. My childhood (and current!) friend Sarah talks about her experience with breast cancer on her well written and charming blog. She's an American living in Belgium and happens to be one of the best people I know.
