These
are rules from four different conservative Christian colleges, as told
to me by my cousins, who attended these schools. This list of rules is
in no way complete.
School One:
Males must wear a tie to class, females must wear skirts no shorter than
one inch above the knee.
Students only allowed to listen to Christian music. No TV.
Members of the opposite sex allowed to hug for 30 seconds. If caught kissing,
must pay a $50 fine.
---------------------------
School
Two:
Males and females not allowed to touch. One male got in trouble for helping
up a female who had fallen.
Goatees banned, unless a "permit" is given.
---------------------------
School
Three:
Separate sidewalks, doorways, and stairwells for men and women.
Females must wear skirts at all times, even in all-female dorms. They
may sleep in sweatpants, which must be put on after 11 p.m. and removed
by 7 a.m.
All students must be in dorms by 9 p.m. sharp. Lights out 11 p.m. sharp.
RAs check rooms twice a night to ensure lights are out.
No touching.
No talking to the opposite sex outside after dark.
No dates.
No homosexuality.
No dancing.
No alcohol.
Females and males only allowed to look at each other for 15 seconds at
a time. If 15 seconds has passed, they must look away. This is known as
"optical intercourse." (This applies on and off campus.)
Cameras installed all over campus.
Students carry an ID card with a magnetic strip. When leaving campus,
students must slide the card through a machine and then select their destination
(i.e., store, gas station, restaurant
) Once "store" is
selected, student must select which store (i.e., Target, Wal-Mart, etc.)
Reports are printed at random, in which case students are "checked
up on" to see if they really went where they claimed they were going.
Students must attend chapel every morning and church every Sunday and
Wednesday.
No music allowed, except for what plays on the campus radio station. When
a radio is plugged into a campus outlet, only the campus radio station
signal is detected. All other frequencies are blocked.
No TVs.
No movies.
Students not considered "saved" unless they ascribe to the King
James version of the Bible.
Students told which church services they must attend, so that the sanctuary
is evenly filled for each service (for the benefit of the cameras).
Females not allowed to wear earrings larger than a dime. Only one piercing
per ear. No other piercings.
Hair must be a natural color.
Females are allowed to wear nail polish, as long as polish is clear or
light pink.
If females want to leave campus, they must be accompanied with four other
girls their freshman year, three other girls their sophomore year, and
so on.
If males want to leave campus, they must be accompanied by one other male.
If a rule is broken, a student must go before a disciplinary committee
which will then decide the appropriate punishment.
---------------------------
School Four:
Students must show flight itinerary when returning home on break. If two
students of the opposite sex are scheduled for the same flight, one student
must change his/her flight, regardless of flight availability.
